b"Family Roots:Welcome BackThis year marked the 16th anniversary of the FamilyRoots program. The idea for the program was bornfrom a meeting of three minds: Katy Rose, who wasworking at the Sooke Family Resource Society at thetime, Jason Cole, Power To Bes then Director ofPrograms and now Co-CEO, and Lindsay Cornell ofthe Boys and Girls Club. Inspired by Bonnie Dyck'swork at Enviros Wilderness School, and their sharedunderstanding of natures healing qualities, theyformed a partnership aimed at helping families buildsustainable positive dynamics. Katy, Jay, Lindsay, andeventually Dave Segal, current Executive Director ofHuman-Nature Counselling, created a unique programthat was the first of its kind for our community.Family Roots continues today as a collaborative A Family Roots group in 2010partnership between Power To Be and Human-Nature In 2017, the program focus shifted to exclusivelyCounselling, and since its inception, the program has serve single-parent families, and the Single Parentserved over 85 families. Through family bonding, Resource Centre, who identified a need for moreadventure, play, and immersion in an accessible, support, was brought on as a partner.
