Volunteering with Power To Be enables us to make nature-based adventures accessible to all individuals in our community. From supporting the administration of our team to helping a participant kayak the coast or explore a trail, your time is the biggest difference in the number of people we can help and lives we can enhance.

Ongoing Volunteer Roles

Administrative Volunteer

Support with administrative aspects within the Power To Be office. Activities could include front desk support, researching, data entry and various tasks.

Event Volunteer

Support major fundraising and community events.

Program Volunteer

Assist in the process of creating a safe and supportive environment for Adaptive Recreation participants. Activities could include kayaking, hiking, canoeing and indoor rock climbing.

  • Vancouver: A waitlist is being taken in Vancouver. However, we are currently very interested in those with availability during the day throughout the week. Please see below to sign up for an information session to learn more.
  • Victoria: A waitlist is being taken in Victoria. Please see below to sign up for an information session to learn more and have your name added to our waitlist.
Prospect Lake Site Volunteer

Support general grounds/maintenance and site development during specific volunteer work days.

Student Practicums and Placements

Specific placements support students in gaining experience in their fields of study.

Vancouver: Power To Be is currently accepting applications for a May – August 2020 Practicum placement. To apply, please submit a cover letter and resume detailing the following to Tameus at vancouverprograms@powertobe.ca by Feb 29th, 2020:

  • Why you are interested in a placement withPower To Be?
  • Which school and program is your practicum placement a part of?
  • How does Power To Be align with the your school program?
  • What are you hoping to enhance or gain from this placement?
  • Start/end dates and hours required of the placement
  • School requirements (special projects or specific supervision needs)
  • If you have weekday and weekend availability

The role of a Power To Be Practicum Student is to assist in the process of creating a safe and supportive environment for adaptive recreation participants. The Practicum Student’s primary role is to connect to our participants and provide social support while doing the activity with the participants. In addition, Practicum students will assist with various administrative duties supporting the implementation and delivery of programs.

Please note all volunteer opportunities are open to individuals 19 years and older.

How to Join

  1. Attend an information session to learn more (see dates below).
  2. When notified by Power To Be, submit an online volunteer application.
  3. Attend an in-person interview with a Power To Be staff member.
  4. Submit the required paperwork, including criminal record check.
