Kyla joined the Power To Be volunteer crew about two years ago. Kyla primarily spreads her love for all things outdoors in our Wilderness School program but is also supports our Adaptive Recreation program. Whether hiking through torrential downpours of rain, washing countless dishes for large events, supporting our fundraising or hanging out on the beach in the sun, Kyla always has a big inviting smile that offers up support and encouragement to all.

Outside of Power To Be Kyla is an active member of the University of Victoria Outdoor Club where she brings her enthusiasm for encouraging others to get outside. Kyla’s commitment to promoting outdoor activity embodies the Power To Be philosophy that #EveryoneBelongsInNature.

Kyla’s skills as a teacher have also come in handy supporting youth learning with heaps of patience and understanding. We were all very proud this summer when Kyla let us know that she had been hired on as a wilderness guide for the Clayoquot Wilderness Resort. We missed her out on programs and are stoked that she is back for the fall and winter seasons.

Kyla’s willingness to walk alongside our participants in their journey, sharing in the awe and wonder of nature, is what endears her to our participants and staff alike. We truly appreciate Kyla’s willingness to help out with whatever is needed. A consistent support for our Wilderness School Orientation, Kyla provides activities and care for younger siblings, so parents and youth can focus without worry of what the younger kids are up to.

We are truly grateful for Kyla and all that she has done to support Power To Be programs. We look forward to continuing to share laughs, fireside chats and good times in nature.
