At Power To Be, we are constantly striving to enhance our programs and provide meaningful experiences for our participants. One of the most significant additions to our toolkit has been the paddleboards, generously funded by the Mr. and Mrs. P.A. Woodward’s Foundation. These paddleboards have not only expanded our program offerings but have also had a profound impact on our community. The paddleboards we acquired are designed with adaptability and stability in mind. This versatility allows us to use them both on-site and off-site, ensuring they are robust and reliable in various environments. Their stability has been particularly beneficial for our inclusive adventure programs, where participants of all abilities can feel confident and secure.
One of the most rewarding aspects of incorporating paddleboards into our programs has been witnessing the growth in confidence among our participants. Many of them had never been on a paddleboard before and approached the activity with apprehension. However, the stability of these boards allowed them to push their boundaries, transitioning from sitting to standing and even moving around on the boards. This newfound confidence is a testament to the positive impact of these paddleboards.
We have also experimented with various adaptations to make paddleboarding accessible to everyone. By attaching kayak seats, pontoons, and stabilizers, we have ensured that individuals who may not be able to stand can still participate fully. These adaptations, along with the numerous attachment points on the boards, have made it possible to tailor the experience to each participant’s needs.
Over the past year, the paddleboards have been integral to so many of our programs, including Inclusive Adventures, Family Roots, and Wilderness Wellness. We’ve conducted paddleboard training for our staff and volunteers, enhancing their skills and competence to better support our programs. This training has also included safety protocols, such as rescuing someone onto a board, which is crucial for ensuring the well-being of our participants.
As paddleboarding continues to grow in popularity, we are excited to explore new opportunities and expand our offerings. The paddleboards have already been used in many programs this year, and we anticipate this number will only increase as more people discover the joy and benefits of paddleboarding. The paddleboards have been a game-changer for Power To Be. They have enabled us to provide more inclusive, adaptable, and confidence-building experiences for our participants. We are immensely grateful to the Mr. and Mrs. P.A. Woodward’s Foundation for their support and look forward to continuing to make a positive impact in our community.
