Power To Be has been supported by Peninsula Co-op since 2007. Over the years, that support has amounted to over $155,000 donated to support our inclusive programs. Recently, Peninsula Co-op has directed its support towards our Wilderness School program. Wilderness School is a multi-year intensive program in Victoria for youth who are in need of additional support services to prepare them for life after high-school. Peninsula Co-op’s financial donations help fuel our trips as we are able to transport youth on adventures across Vancouver island with their generous support. Beyond financial contributions, the individual Peninsula Co-op locations throughout southern Vancouver Island provide genuine care whenever our vans pull into their stations.
Sylvia Storry, Power To Be‘s Youth and Family Practice Coordinator described the impact of Peninsula Co-op’s support, “we are grateful for the friendly local advice on everything from the best place to get firewood, to the best local swimming hole. We really appreciate their patience when multiple youths need a washroom stop mid trip! Once we stopped at a service station to grab ice to soothe an injury for a young person, the staff went above and beyond and sent us on our way with ice and a proper bag to prevent leaks! It truly takes a community to support the youth in our Wilderness School and we are very proud that Peninsula Co-op continues to be a dedicated part of our efforts to supporting youth to find belonging in nature.”
Lindsay Gaudette, Marketing and Community Relations Manager of Peninsula Co-op said “we are committed to supporting the communities where we do business and causes that matter to our member-owners. Vancouver Islanders love living here because of the beautiful environment and we believe everyone should have the ability to experience it. We are honoured to support the ongoing efforts of Power To Be as they help remove barriers so everyone can experience the nature around us.”
Power To Be‘s Wilderness School graduates transition into early adulthood better equipped to navigate the world around them. Peninsula Co-op supports that transition, making a tangible difference in the lives of our participants. Thank you to Peninsula Co-op for your ongoing support!
