Power To Play adventure race through Stanley Park creates connections to nature

Community, competition and connectivity were the keys to success of Power To Play Vancouver. On Thursday, Sept. 21, 30 teams from Vancouver’s business community competed in the charitable race presented by Goldcorp. The event raised $310,000 in support of inclusive adventures rooted in nature with Power To Be.

“The support this year was overwhelming in the best way. From an engaged volunteer team to racers who were personally connected to our mission, Power To Play was a great example of what Power To Be is all about,” Dana Hutchings, Power To Be Director of Advancement and Communications. “Community, connection, and supporting each other to explore in nature.”

Relying on working together to complete the race, Power To Play encourages team members to learn what the power of community and connectivity can do. Facing 15 challenges through a 10-kilometre outdoor adventure course, the teams had the opportunity to challenge one another both mentally and physically while learning more about how Power To Be connects individuals facing barriers to nature.

Special mentions go to the top fundraising team, Wheaton Precious Metals Corp who received the Act-of-Kindness Award for raising $23,542 in support of Power To Be. Wheaton Precious Metals Corp team member Kelly Shea took home the honour of top individual fundraiser for raising $7,586. Langara Fishing Adventures the fastest race winners finishing at 1:51:20.

Through the support of everyone involved in Power To Play Vancouver, Power To Be will offer programs to more than 1,200 participants in Victoria and Vancouver this year. Thank you to everyone who makes that possible!
