Owen Matthews appointed to board May 11

Power To Be is honoured to welcome Owen Matthews as its newest board member. Having previously served in an advisory and committee level role for five years, Matthews officially joined the Board of Directors on Monday, May 11.

“Power To Be is a small and efficient charity with a big impact in our community,” Matthews says. “I have the privilege of seeing the value and quality of its work firsthand and I am excited to lend my expertise at the board level to support that.”

“We are very excited to have him join our board at this stage in the organization’s history. His extensive background in governance and fundraising will help guide us as we plan the future of our programming,” adds Power To Be Executive Director Tim Cormode. “He is committed to supporting his community and we are very grateful that he sees the value of what Power to Be offers in Victoria and Vancouver.”

Matthews is a general partner at Wesley Clover, an early stage technology investor. He manages investments and sits on the boards of Referral SaaSquatch, Tutela Technologies, Pretio Interactive, TaraSpan Inc., Encepta Corp., and EchoSec. Prior to joining Wesley Clover, he was the founder, chairman and CEO of NewHeights Software, which was acquired by CounterPath Corporation. Matthews founded and chairs the not-for-profit Alacrity Foundation, dedicated to helping engineering graduates create and grow technology companies in Western Canada.

He sits on boards for DigiBC, St. Margaret’s School, CounterPath Corporation, Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island and the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria. He is an event partner and volunteers as an advisor/mentor with VIATeC’s regional accelerator program.
