On Thursday, June 18th at 4:00 pm, Power To Be kicked off our very first Power To Summit. This event was designed as a virtual expedition, challenging teams of 4 people to cumulatively complete the elevation of Mount Kilimanjaro, an impressive 5895 meters, within 72 hours! The idea for the event was sparked by the 10-year anniversary of the Power To Be team’s adventure to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in 2010. A total of 44 teams participated in Power To Summit with racers competing on Vancouver Island, in Vancouver, Alberta, and Ontario.

Throughout the race, the energy was unparalleled, and teams repeatedly demonstrated their camaraderie, determination, and philanthropy. Racers shared photos, videos, and encouraging messages through the event’s Facebook page throughout the weekend and were not shy to show off their hilarious costumes, creative fundraising efforts, and of course, their Power To Be spirit.

“It was incredible to see this brand new event come together. Community connection is more important than ever right now, and Power To Summit really brought people together to achieve a common goal while fundraising for Power To Be. Our team could not be more pleased with how successful this event was,” says Dana Hutchings, Chief Operating Officer at Power To Be. “The timing played out perfectly to reconnect with our community and encourage people to get back into nature all while reaching new heights.”

Thank you to everyone who made Power To Summit possible! We are so grateful to all the companies, individuals and organizations that donated their time, services, and dollars to make this event a roaring success. In light of COVID-19, Power To Be has been determined to continue to serve the needs of our community. Because of you, we raised $119,023. The money raised from this event helps to ensure that our participants can continue to access nature, and for that we are so incredibly grateful! Thank you for being a part of this awesome adventure!
