On the weekend of May 27-29, Power To Be held our 5th Power To Summit virtual fundraising event, which saw 80 teams of four racers work together to climb, fundraise, and bond in support of Power To Be. As we entered our 3rd season of Power To Summit, excitement was at an all time high.

After virtually summiting Kilimanjaro and Denali in our past events over the last two years, we decided to go BIG in 2022 and combine our two signature events into one, inviting racers from Victoria, Vancouver, and anywhere in the world to join us for this epic virtual expedition. In the spirit of going big, we selected Mt. Everest as our mountain to conquer, pushing teams to new limits as they showed immense enthusiasm and commitment for the challenge.

From the very start, as we kicked off the event registration, we were impressed with the engagement we saw from everyone involved. In the lead up to race weekend, teams truly got creative as they launched a variety of different fundraising strategies to support Power To Be, including car washes, bake sales, fitness challenges, and businesses donating proceeds from certain items. As the race began on the Friday at noon, we immediately were inundated with social media posts of teams sharing their excitement, sporting their racer kits, posting team photos, and educating their networks about Power To Be’s impact. Over the next three days, this engagement didn’t slow, with racers clocking some serious elevation as they made their way to the summit and continued to push their fundraising.

We were blown away by all the colourful costumes, smiling selfies, and of course, summit shots! We saw so many teams running into each other and hiking together on the trails, encouraging each other, and embracing what Power To Be is all about – creating access to nature and enjoying its immense benefits as a community.

Thank you to everyone who made this event possible, including our sponsors, event partners, donors, and racers! The event raised over $335,000 to support Power To Be’s inclusive programming and for this, we are so grateful! We can’t wait for you to join us on our next adventure!
