On Thursday, September 19th, Power To Be held its annual fundraising event, Power To Play. The event consisted of 15 adventure challenges scattered throughout Stanley Park… something you definitely don’t see every day! With 27 teams in attendance, the high energy was contagious as teams raced to complete the 10-kilometre course while navigating trails, riddles, and challenges.
After months of fundraising leading up to the event, every single team showed up brimming with spirit and excitement for race day. From the Golden Girls to Scooby-Doo and the Gang, teams arrived in costume and in character, ready to take on the highly-anticipated course.
Team members worked together and were challenged to use their minds and bodies to complete the action-packed adventure. A Power To Be participant team also joined in on the action as they took place in the race accompanied by friends and volunteers. The course featured challenges such as building a raft, navigating a maze, pulling a van, and of course, the finale of riding down a massive slip-n-slide on an inflatable duck.
Because of the collective fundraising efforts of our 27 teams, over $330,000 was raised in support of Power To Be! Participation in this adventure race ensures that everyone in our community has access to nature, so they can experience their own adventures. “The commitment and passion of all teams and their racers is incredible, both in fundraising efforts and during the race”, says Corra-Rose McClung-Sitnam, Advancement Associate at Power To Be. “We are so grateful to have such a supportive community be a part of our mission. The money raised from Power To Play ensures that we can continue to deliver our inclusive, outdoor adventures to anyone living with a barrier. Thank you to everyone who was a part of the truly special day.” A special shout out to the top fundraising team Connor, Clark, & Lunn Financial Group, who raised $20,941, and to Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, also known as Team BLG for coming in 1st place in the race with a time of 02:07:01.
