Months of fundraising by 35 teams culminated on Sunday, May 27 at Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park for Power To Play as Victoria’s business community competed in the charitable race, presented by HL Demolition & Waste Management. The event raised $230,500 in support of Power To Be programs, helping to ensure nature will be accessible for more than 1,400 people this year.
“Power To Play was a great success because you saw racers having fun and getting outdoors in support of our programs. We are so grateful for their efforts, and the opportunity to get even more people out into nature,” says Dana Hutchings, Power To Be Director of Advancement and Communications. “The sense of community at this event is outstanding and the real winners of this race are our participants. They are the ones who are directly impacted from the hard work of everyone who was involved.”
Immersed in the outdoors, the adventure race challenged Power To Play team members to rely on each other, drawing on their communication skills to complete the obstacles throughout this roughly 10-kilometre course. Teams completed fan-favourite challenges such as the truck pull, dance floor challenge, and the finale, using their team dynamics and group strength to race through the course. Power To Be’s very own team competed in the race, with a mixture of staff and participants racers, and was accompanied by a cheer squad of participants that followed them through the course.
Special mentions go to the top fundraising team, Scotia Wealth who received the Act-of-Kindness Award for raising $16,262.47 in support of Power To Be and to RBC Dominion Securities, the fastest race winners finishing at 1:57:21. The Team Spirit Award went to 17 Black Events.
