Power To Be’s Prospect Lake site has become our inclusion hub and a place that evokes feeling of home and welcome upon arrival. We have been incredibly fortunate to have access to such an enriching natural environment to hold our programs and house our staff.

With the completion of phase one of our new build last August, we have been nesting in our space and exploring the potential of these incredible buildings. As an extension of our new build, this spring, HeroWork will be bringing an exciting phase of the project to life by renovating our existing barn and building a beautiful log pavilion!

HeroWork is a charity that transforms other charities. They bring community together for ‘Radical Renovations’ that transform and uplift buildings owned by local charities. In summer of 2017, HeroWork carried out an extensive renovation at our Prospect Lake site which included adding invaluable, accessible infrastructure including lake dock access, kayak storage, tent pads, our beloved roundhouse, and much more.

Starting in April 2023, HeroWork will begin their second radical renovation at Power To Be’s Prospect Lake site. With accessibility at the forefront of the design of the upcoming renovations and additions, HeroWork will nearly double Power To Be’s capacity for interior and sheltered programming while adding amenities that will be essential in supporting our programs.

See below for all the details about the two major transformations taking place.

The Old Barn
Power To Be’s barn has historically been a storage space for gear, tools, and much more. With a beautiful gear hub now available to us, we now have capacity to move everything into the new building and transform the barn into an exciting new indoor programming space. In order to do this, HeroWork will be:

  • Creating a bold, new and fully accessible interior space with ADA-compliant washroom with shower and amenities to serve persons living with disabilities.
  • Creating a large, open and versatile multi-use space to facilitate programming.
  • Adding a greenhouse for additional program offerings.
  • Extending the roof to create a covered building entry and gathering space.

The Log Pavilion
A reclaimed log structure was generously donated to Power To Be in recent years and with the popularity of our roundhouse space, we have been awaiting the opportunity to install it on site. This will provide us will additional covered program space which comes in handy during the rainy seasons. For this project, HeroWork will be:

  • Building a new pavilion with reclaimed raw timber to create an open air, sheltered gathering. This will provide increased programming and events under and support existing programs around the Prospect Lake site.
  • Creating a fully accessible, custom-designed octagonal pavilion with standing seam metal roof.
  • Adding custom masonry, fireplace and seating.

We are so excited to have our friends from HeroWork back on site to make this vision a reality! These projects are made possible with community support and lots of helping hands. If you are interested in volunteering, click the button below to sign up for a shift!
