Power To Be has had an incredible 20 years, and we wouldn’t be where we are today without the amazing community that supports us. Thank you for sharing the adventure with us. We want to wish you and your family the happiest of holidays and offer best wishes for 2019.
The highlights from this year are many, and they are best expressed directly from our participants and their families. We were honoured to be featured in a nationally-broadcast mini-documentary for Accessible Media Inc., where Power To Be parent Donna spoke of her family’s experience.
We tried so many new things with our participants in both cities. From cross-country skiing at Cypress Mountain, dragon boat paddling in False Creek and mountain biking in Whistler, we explored new terrain in Vancouver in addition to kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, hiking and more. Check out this video from a rafting adventure this summer to relive some of the action!
In Victoria, we explored throughout Vancouver Island with Wilderness School, including three expedition trips around Desolation Sound and the Gulf Islands with overnights at Prospect Lake. With Adaptive Recreation we explored local parks and our property at Prospect Lake where we brought participants from both cities together for the first time to camp among other adventures. We also ventured to Tofino with families from both locations to catch waves.
None of these adventures would be possible without our amazing volunteers. From supporting in the office, on program and at our events, the hours shared make our programs possible. We were honoured to learn together at our annual volunteer training events and grateful to play together throughout the year.
That feeling of gratitude extends to our community of supporters, which through individual giving and fundraising events provides the resources we need to run our programs. From record-breaking totals at each of our signature fundraising events this year to creative third-party events and donations, we are truly grateful our community’s shared commitment to ensuring more people can access nature.
We are so excited for what the future has in store for our community. Check out the latest video on our Prospect Lake site to learn more about where we are going.
On behalf of all of us at Power To Be, we hope you enjoy your holidays and time with friends and family. As our team will be doing the same, please note that the offices will be closed Dec. 21, 2018 to Jan. 2, 2019. We look forward to connecting with you and seeing you on program in 2019!
