How do volunteers support Power To Be?

Volunteers contribute to our impact in a number of ways! From helping us deliver programs, to maintaining the accessibility of our site, to sharing our work with the broader community and more – volunteers are integral members of our team. Check out our volunteer roles to learn more about the ways you can get involved.

Where can I volunteer?

We welcome volunteer support in Victoria and Vancouver. Depending on your role, you may be asked to support us in person at our home base, on location during programs, or at community venues in the cities where we operate.

What is the time commitment?

The time commitment for volunteering at Power To Be varies by role. Your involvement may be as short as helping out at a single work party, to as long as a full-year commitment with one of our programs. You can learn more about what each of our roles requires by checking out our volunteer roles webpage.

What can I expect as a volunteer with Power To Be?

Power To Be values community, diversity and inclusion, service and gratitude.  We strive to provide a sense of belonging and to share an abundance of support for everyone who volunteers with us. Our aim is to offer a meaningful experience full of opportunities for service, learning, connection and fun!

Welcoming New Volunteers

How do I get started?

To get started, we ask that you review our available roles and then submit an intake form to share your interests and past experiences with us. We’ll then organize a 1-1 introductory call to get to know you better!

What is the onboarding process for new volunteers?

All new volunteers join us for a volunteer orientation session and complete online training that includes a criminal record check. Once these steps are completed, we will provide additional direction about how to get started in the specific role(s) you’re interested in.

When are your volunteer orientation sessions?

This immersive experience will help you learn how you can contribute to Power To Be and how our volunteer program operates. It includes an immersive tour of our site at Prospect Lake and engaging conversations with members of our community.

2024 Dates: April 13, May 12, June 16, July 13, August 11, September 22, November 2

Volunteer Engagement and Support

How do you coordinate volunteer involvement?

One of the strengths of our volunteer program is the flexibility we offer to our volunteers. Using our online platform, Better Impact, you can register for a variety of volunteer activities that align with your interests, qualifications and availability.

What learning and training opportunities are available for volunteers?

Throughout the year volunteers receive invitations to participate in learning and training activities as they become available. This may include relational skills, first aid, large mammal training, outdoor leadership, and technical skills related to our various outdoor activities. Please note that some training will be restricted to specific volunteer roles.

How do you recognize and appreciate volunteer contributions?

Beyond invitations to attend learning activities, we recognize and appreciate volunteer contributions in a variety of other ways. This includes everything from informal words of thanks on a regular basis to meaningful appreciation events throughout the year. We also provide gifts to volunteers at specific milestones throughout their involvement with the organization as a special thank you for their contributions.

How can I help out in your programs?

Volunteering to support the delivery of our programs is one of the main ways that volunteers help at Power To Be. Interested volunteers looking to join programs first complete an interview with our team, followed by a trial session to experience what it’s like. Once those are complete, you will be added to our roster of program volunteers and receive monthly emails with our upcoming program schedule. You can then sign up for activities that interest you through our online volunteer portal, Better Impact.

Non-program volunteers are encouraged to join us at our Have A Go Days to connect with our community and participate in the recreational activities being offered!
