Every fall the team at Power To Be get together for a couple of days to ideate, connect, laugh, and plan for the future. It’s something the team looks forward to and we always come out bright, inspired, and reinvigorated.

This year, we were not able to meet in person but still wanted to keep that fun and connection alive. The planning committee had a challenging task at hand – how do you host a virtual activity where people feel engaged, and are having fun beyond staring at a computer?

We turned to our friend Bob Ross for inspiration and combined creativity, with nature (our favorite), and space for lots of laughs in our very own Bob Ross Paint Night. What better way to spend an evening than building some happy little clouds and happy little trees!

Prior to the event, our organizers – “Bob Ross and Bob Ross”, requested everyone dress up if they wish, and provided a list of the paints, brushes, and canvas that we would need to complete our piece. It was even encouraged to try different mediums than just paint – ketchup? mustard? make-up?

They then found the perfect nature scene for us to paint as a group. Bob Ross has 31 seasons of his show “The Joy of Painting” available on Youtube. And every single episode is available to choose from! There is no shortage of beautiful nature scenes.

Here is the episode the Power To Be team did:

I encourage you to take a look at others and find what’s right for you! We all logged in through Microsoft Teams and followed along with the video together taking breaks to show off our amazing skills, admire people’s “paint” choices and laugh at the creative costume choices.

With our team spread out in Vancouver, Ontario, and Victoria, this evening truly made us feel together. Many of us will be doing it again with our friends and families and we encourage YOU to give it a try as well. In the words of Bob Ross, “You have unlimited power on this canvas — can literally, literally move mountains”

“There’s nothing wrong with having a tree as a friend.”
