Elena joined the Power To Be team as part of her third-year practicum in Child and Youth Care at the University of Victoria. Since Elena began her placement she has been able to contribute to a wide variety of Power To Be programs including utilizing her background as a climbing instructor to support on the adaptive climbing programs. She has also made notable contributions in the Wilderness School where she has supported on everything from trail building to overnight snowshoeing trips.

On Wilderness School trips, Elena’s calm and collected nature has allowed her to easily create meaningful relationships with the youth. Hidden behind her calm and collected self is an inner desire to push herself and excel at what she does. Elena was a member of the Canadian Junior National Luge team and as a professional longboard skateboarder she has held two Downhill World Champion titles. While working in the field, it’s clear her background has given her the ability to stay calm under pressure.

As Elena’s practicum is close to an end we would like to thank her for her time and contributions as well as echo our youth in hoping it’s not the last time we see her out on Power To Be programs.
