More than 5,000+ hours given in support of programs, events

During any given week, a volunteer can be found on kayaking, hiking, camping, canoeing and other programs. With more than 5,000 volunteer hours logged across the organization to date this year, we want to take this opportunity to thank the amazing community of people who help make Power To Be programs, events and operations possible.

“Volunteers really enable Power To Be to do the work we do to serve all of our amazing participants,” says Jen Boot, Program Support Specialist in Vancouver. “Each time they come on program, or come to help on events they bring with them such energy and enthusiasm which is infectious for not only the participants but also the staff.”

They are supported through training opportunities, from hard skills such as belaying for climbing and experience using equipment such as TrailRiders and kayak pontoons, to soft skills such as verbal techniques to support youth living with autism.

Behind the scenes, volunteers provide guidance as members of the board and committees. Collectively they help guide the organization in everything from program development to financial accountability. Others donate their time to assist in the office, helping with administrative tasks.

They also play an instrumental part in fundraising events. From Power To Play in Victoria and Vancouver to Power To Golf, volunteers give their time to facilitate activities, organize other volunteers and ensure the events are a great experience for all involved.

“I am constantly inspired by what these individuals bring to the table each month straight from the goodness of their heart. They are enriching our programs with new ideas, skills and experiences,” says Kendal Wright, Program Support Specialist in Victoria. “I would like to extend a thank you to all of our volunteers for being open, curious, flexible and dependable. We could not run a great deal of programs without their tireless support.”
